Phone a Pain Pal: The FPA Holiday Help Line

January 5, 2023: The Facial Pain Association’s Phone a Pain Pal Holiday Help Line has concluded after a three-week pilot program. The FPA would like to thank the 30+ generous volunteers who gave their time and energy to make this project possible and is grateful to the callers who trusted the FPA to provide trained volunteers able to lend a sympathetic ear during a difficult time of year.

The holidays can be a joyous time filled with parties and family gatherings. Unfortunately, the holidays can also be a time of increased loneliness and isolation. This can be especially true if you are living with facial pain. We recognize the need for additional support during the holiday season and we are responding with a new program called the Phone a Pain Pal Holiday Help Line.

From 5pm to 11pm EST on December 15, 2022, to January 5, 2023, trained FPA volunteers will be available to take calls from anyone living with facial pain, their family members, or their loved ones. All of our volunteers either live with facial pain themselves or are close to someone who does. They will be available to lend a sympathetic ear and help callers feel less alone during a difficult time of year. Just call 800-923-3608.

Phone a Pain Pal is intended to be a support line and not a crisis line, which is beyond the scope of the FPA. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call 911, or 988 for the National Mental Health Crisis Line.

If you’re interested in volunteering with the FPA for future projects, please contact Regina Gore, FPA Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected].
